Info to cancel LSAT score
Okay, you’ve decided to cancel your LSAT score. You’ve read the previous post “Should I cancel my LSAT Score” and decided to go forward with this, so now what do you need to do?
Fortuntely, it is pretty easy to cancel an LSAT score, but it needs to be done in a timely fashion, if not, you will be stuck with that score you really, really don’t want.
(You do have the option of canceling your score on test day by completing the cancellation instructions on your answer sheet. But my advice is to never cancel your score using the answer sheet method. Instead, give yourself some time to really think it over, compare notes with other test-takers, and decide if it really did go as badly as you thought.)
Important thing #1- 6 days
The most important thing to remember is that LSAC must get, in their hands, your cancellation request within 6 days of the test date. If you fail to get them the request in 6 days, then you will not be able to cancel your score later. A postmark within the 6 days is not sufficient; they must get your request in 6 days. You may either fax or express mail your request. An express letter is usually the best choice, since you can get it there the next day, and you have a positive confirmation that it arrived, which isn’t the case with a fax. Either route you use, you are entirely responsible for ensuring that LSAC actually received your letter/fax and that it didn’t go astray en route.
(Also note that LSAC regularly changes deadlines and rules. Depending on how old this post is when you read it, the magic number may no longer be 6 days. Always confirm all information on the LSAC site.)
Easy thing #1- Contents of your cancel LSAT score request
LSAC doesn’t require much by way of documentation. The easiest route is to use their downloadable request form. Or, if you can’t get your hands on that, then a simple letter that satisfies the following requirements. (Text taken from LSAC website)
- your statement that you wish to cancel LSAT score
- your name and LSAC account number
- the test date and test center name and code number
- your signature (unsigned cancellation requests will not be processed)

Important thing #2-
As stated before, it is entirely up to you to confirm that LSAC did, in fact, receive your cancellation request. It is always possible for a fax to fail to go through, or an express letter to get lost or delayed. So stay on top of this. LSAC promises to e-mail you a receipt confirmation within 4 days, so if you don’t get that, you need to get on the phone right away and keep an eye on your online account.
Finally, make sure you don’t have do ever do this again. If the reason that you need to cancel your lsat score was truly out of your hands, then there is always next time. If you could have done something to prevent the problem, like better preparation, then let this be your lesson to do it right the next time.
